The regional museum opened its doors in 2011 and has since attracted thousands of visitors year after year. Its awe-inspiring architectural design against the background of the serene surroundings makes for a warm welcome to visitors.

The museum has a range of unique items which remain within their permanent collection as well as an ever-revolving schedule of special exhibitions. Come and learn more about the unique Yarra Ranges Landscape and the industries that have supported it as well as the people that call this place home. The museum collection comprises of approximately 8,500 items, including 2,000 photographs, oral history recordings, artworks and personal objects.

The most popular part of the collection is the “Melba collection”, 870 letters, photographs and personal objects related to opera diva Dame Nellie Melba, Australia’s first international star, who lived in the Yarra Valley.

There is a Museum Shop on site where visitors can pick up a souvenir, jewellery, homewares, magnets, as well as specially designed Dame Nellie Melba products. The museum does not have a carpark, so visitors will need to source space from around the building. Most are free of charge.
